Double Mini Trampolining is a new and exciting discipline of trampolining rarely seen in the UK until now. It can be described as something of a cross between the Gymnastics Trampette and Trampolining. Only skills that are first perfected on a regular trampoline are then transferred to the Double Mini. It is a sport that in the right hands, is explosive and spectacular both to watch and take part in. The DMT has been in Great Britain since its invention by the Nissen organisation, however it was mainly used as a training aid until the mid 80's. During the late 80’s British coaches had started holding a few DMT competitions. However, since there was no recognised coaching scheme in place, the BTF was forced to ban these competitions and promised to develop a coaching scheme.
The first pilot course was successfully run on 20/21 November 1999 and later ratified by Central Council for inclusion in the coaching scheme. DMT is already highly developed in other countries but as yet the UK has only a dozen qualified coaches. It is hoped that we will see British competitors on the European and World podiums soon. Already British competitors are developing great DMT skill and we have seen many successes at World Age Group level. During April we saw the first ever UK team compete at the Flanders Cup in Belgium, which is an open international event specifically for DMT. The next steps are to create and develop a National Youth and Senior Squad and to develop a DMT coaching network. Three of Recoil Senior Club Coaches, Janet, Tricia and Bev are qualified to coach trampoline performers on the Double Mini Trampoline. They are qualified to the Senior Double Mini Tramp level and therefore can coach performers up to and including multiple twisting multiple somersaults. |
