The Essex Sports Awards 2007

Key members of the county's sports scene were celebrating last night after scooping accolades at the glittering 2007 Essex Sports Awards in Chelmsford.
Over 200 attendees at the awards ceremony saw winners and short listed nominees from all corners of the county collect a variety of awards, that included those for athletic achievement, future potential, coaching prowess and behind-the scene heroics. Nominees heralded from Loughton to Canvey Island and from Braintree to Tendring.
The Essex Sports Awards, hosted by sportessex, celebrate and recognise the very best in sport in Essex and those people who participate, support its provision and invest personally in its ongoing development. The 2007 awards ceremony follows the successful inaugural Essex Sports Awards last year, and similar awards take place across the East of England and around the country.
RecoilTwisters were runners up in the 'Innovative Scheme of the Year' category for the School / Club link with Anglo European School. Janet and Trish are seen here accepting the award with Recoil coaches and staff and teachers from the Anglo European School.

CLUB SX DISABLED FRIENDLY
Club SX is the Essex Sports Club Accreditation Scheme. It has been designed to recognise high quality clubs within the county and acts as a stepping stone to National Governing Body Accreditation / Clubmark. It also enables smaller clubs to be recognised and provides an award for sports that are ineligible for other accreditation schemes. The criteria includes: NGB affiliation, Insurance, First Aid, Health and Safety, Membership records, Club Constitution, Club Committee, Qualified Coaches, CRB Check, Child Protection Policy and Training.
The scheme has been in operation for nearly 2 years and over 90 clubs have achieved Club SX including Recoil TC.
Essex County Council, with support from Essex Sports Development Forum Club Development Group, has developed the Club SX Disabled Friendly accreditation. The objectives of the Award are: -
. To enable and encourage club to become "disabled" user friendly club within Essex;
. To use Club SX to break down "barriers" to increase sports participation for young people with disabilities;
. To provide an opportunity for Club SX to develop itself further;
. To increase young people with disability's choice on wider sports participation;
. To increase people with disabilities knowledge on facilities available in their local community;
. To enable or encourage coaches, members or volunteers to develop their confident or skills by working with young people with disabilities;
. To enable individual club Committees to acknowledge the benefit of wider community sport provision.

To date Essex County Council have been piloting the project with Recoil Trampoline Club. We are pleased to say that the pilot scheme went well and are ready to launch the project for roll out in the county.

It has been an ambition of the Club for some time to build a dedicated facility for trampolining in Brentwood. This huge task could all happen with your support! Brentwood Council have agreed to provide a plot of land next to the Brentwood Centre. Now we have to raise £1 million to build the facility. The sooner we do this, the sooner the work can start. Having secured the land, and some funding from the Zurich Foundation, we are now applying to other major funding sources for grants towards the building work, equipment and the actual costs of running the facility. There will be a fund raising focus on providing trampolining facilities for disabled people, but these will be available for disabled and able bodied members alike. Following are some of the ways that members can help.

Let us know if you have any connections with companies or individuals that might provide funding.

Do you have contacts with companies that are associated with the building trade - flooring, tarmac, electricians….

Do you know any solicitors / architects / interior designers / printing firms - just to mention a few - that might be prepared to provide these

Do you know any 'celebrities' or people with positions within the community who could be persuaded to lend their name and occasional presence for the project?

Are there other people or companies that you think might be a useful contact, even if you are not quite sure how at the moment?!

We will need loads of equipment beyond the obvious trampolines! These include IT equipment, stationery, vending machines, furniture, paint…

Support club fundraising events. This has three benefits. Firstly, it helps to raise the money for the project, no matter how little. As importantly, it sends a message to funding and other companies that this project matters to us. Finally, they are fun!

If you would like to become more involved in the organisation of the project then contact the Management Committee on the number below. For the benefit of your kids and others, support us now and 'spring it on'!
