Martin Peters MBE – Patron of RecoilTwisters Trampoline Club based at The Trampoline & Activity Centre
Martin Peters began his career at local club West Ham signing as an apprentice in May 1959 before turning professional eighteen months later. He made his debut in 1962 against Cardiff City and soon became a regular in the West Ham first team making 302 league appearances and scoring 81 league goals.
In this time, he won a European Cup Winners Cup medal and the World Cup with England for whom he scored the second goal in the 4-2 victory over Germany.
Martin was memorably described by West Ham manager Ron Greenwood as being "ten years ahead of his time".
He joined Tottenham Hotspur in March 1970 and enjoyed even more success. Martin scored on his Spurs debut against Coventry City and went on to win two League Cups and one UEFA Cup. In 1975, after 189 League appearances and 46 goals for Spurs, Martin moved to Norwich City - managed by his former West Ham team-mate John Bond.
Martin made more than 200 appearances for Norwich, before joining Sheffield United in 1980 as player-manager. On retirement in 1981, after a distinguished and remarkably injury-free career, he had racked up 882 appearances in total, scoring a superb 220 goals. Between 1966 and 1974, Martin Peters had accumulated 67 England caps and scored 20 goals for his country.
Awarded the MBE in 1978, Martin, plus the rest of the '66 squad, won the PFA's Special Merit Award in 1986.
Martin, who lives in Brentwood, became Patron of RecoilTwisters Trampoline Club in 2006 and has worked tirelessly to help raise the profile of our Club and the project to build a facility for disability and high performance trampolining in Brentwood.
