History of Recoil T.C.Billericay Trampoline Club (now Recoil) was formed on the evening of 14th March 1975 by Mr Paul Frost and Mrs Eva Treleaven. A constitution was agreed upon, a committee set up and the Club colours were elected to be purple and white, which are still the Club colours today some 26 years later. Two of the original members were Mrs Janet Hay (nee Husband) and Mrs Bev Lee (nee Peacock) both went on to run Billericay Trampoline Club. Billericay proceeded to have many successes producing County and Eastern Champions and National Finalists, both boys and girls. Most notably was John Colquhoun who after winning the Under 18 National Championships was then selected to represent Britain in the World Age Group Championships in New Zealand. Apart from these highlights members of the Club competed in an International event in Belgium and hosted a Club from Germany who met and competed with members of other Clubs from the region. The Club hosted and still does, its own Annual Club Competition where members compete and are judged on form alone, believing that this gives an equal chance to each member irrespective of his/her standard, as the pursuit of style remains our main objective. The Club moved from Billericay, when it outgrew available court space, to Markhams Chase Sports Centre in Laindon. Tricia Johnston (nee Paolillo) began Trampolining as a child in 1971. She joined Shenfield Trampoline Club under the guidance of Jean Burrows. After retiring from competitive trampolining she became a coach and started her own successful trampoline club in 1991. Tricia joined forces with Janet and Bev to form Recoil Trampoline Club in September 1998. The three ladies have over 70 years combined experience in trampolining both as competitors and coaches. They are all Senior Club Coaches, Senior Double Mini Tramp Coaches and judges; Tricia is also a Special Needs Coach. Due to further expansion the Club now also train at the Brentwoood Centre , Doddinghurst Road Brentwood and Shenfield Sports Centre, Oliver Road Shenfield, Brentwood Essex. The sessions offered are for the recreational to the advanced performer in sessions that total over 30 hours a week. Courses are run during the school holidays for the children on the waiting list, a list that expands weekly. Recoil also organises coaching and judging courses. Club members, currently numbering over one hundred and fifty, have to train in three different centres, which of course is not ideal towards enhancing a sense of a unified club. Recoil now currently has two Grade 2 National Champions, two members competiting at National Grade 1 and 14 members in National Grade 2. Club members regularly participate in and organise fund raising events and have given to charities such as the Helen Rollason Cancer Care Appeal and the Essex Air Ambulance. The Club also represents Trampolining on the Brentwood Sports Council and has voting committee members on the Eastern Region Trampoline Technical Committee which is chaired by Alasdair Colquhoun. |
